Kon Yashwant Pansare looked like a cheap copy of Jolly LLB. The beginning was gripping as it introduced us to Yashwant Pansare, a lawyer who himself has lost faith in the system. But this wasn’t the strongest plot. The key to the treasure was Sadashiv Mapari and his suicide after Pansare blabbers that one can expect justice only if one dies. Otherwise, no one cares, and the system simply refuses to listen to a person’s pleas.
The cherry on top was Bharat Jadhav and Milind Phatak, two excellent actors. However, Milind Phatak was just a passing character, and Bharat Jadhav alone couldn’t save a story that makes little sense.
The first reason the film fails so terribly is that Pansare starts a legal battle against the system to find out why Mapari was driven to suicide, hoping that this would bring attention to his missing daughter’s case. Second, the main plot gets sidelined, and suddenly, we start feeling that we have seen something similar before. And then it hits us: this is Jolly LLB all over again. The defence lawyer, played by Pushkar Shotri, is trying to play not Advocate Sarda but Advocate Rajpal from Jolly LLB. His mannerisms, dialogue delivery, and characterisation resemble Rajpal’s so closely that the character feels like a poor imitation rather than an original creation. And slowly, the court arguments start getting frustrating.
The story loses the plot so badly that it feels like the writer forgot the story midway through. From a father who loses his mental balance after losing his daughter, to a legal battle blaming the entire system for his suicide, to finally finding the girl and uncovering a prostitution racket involving a politician’s son… there are so many unnecessary diversions that one starts feeling giddy and struggles to make sense of it all.
A story that begins with a missing girl and traces her journey into prostitution should have been spine-chilling and nerve-wracking. But all we get are forced lectures on the judiciary, crime, and humanity. Neither does the girl look like someone who has been through hell and back, nor does the lawyer appear to be struggling to connect the dots in such a complicated case. And the defence lawyer? Clueless! Just like the audience…
