It’s Complicated Review: What Happens When The Relationship Ends But Love Doesn’t?

Sometimes, it’s not above love anymore, it’s about closure. It’s Complicated deals with complexities that a woman faces when her marriage ends without giving her the much-needed closure.

Jane, when circumstances allow her to love her husband once again, she fails to hold herself back despite knowing that he is now married to another woman, much younger than him, and the couple is also trying to have a kid. Being his wife and the mother of their 3 children, she finds solace in knowing that her husband still finds peace with her. As the story progresses, we see how Jane now starts to see Jake, her husband, for the person he is – not the man she once adored or the father of their kids but for the man that he is. Just like he cheated on Jane, he is now cheating on his current wife. The underlying issue being the same – he is not someone who is comfortable with the responsibilities that come with being in a stable relationship or the responsibilities that come as you build your own family.

Life then gives Jane another chance at love. Adam, an architect, who is dealing with his own divorce and loneliness, walks into her life. Unlike Jane, Adam has no lingering romantic feelings for his wife and is very clear about what he wants with Jane. Unfortunately, Jane is still swaying between wanting to be with Jake and moving on.

While we see Jane still stuck between the ongoing affair with her ex-husband and understanding what she feels for Adam, her children get to know about the rekindling of romance between their parents which makes them hopeful. Jake, while smartly, trying to manipulate the situation to convince his ex-wife to take him back, the stand that Jane takes for herself while making kids understand how the equation between her and their father is not the same anymore is applaud-worthy. The maturity with which this situation has been handled is truly praise-worthy. No drama, no blame game – just the understanding of complex human emotions – from wanting the one you love, not getting the closure you deserve, to admitting that the man is not the right choice, and moving on while still admiring what you have built with the same man over the years, and then finally letting what she deserves choose her once again – still not chasing it because maybe what she deserves doesn’t deserve her anymore, is something worth watching.

Though the IMDB rating isn’t too good, I recommend this movie – at least to every middle aged woman or any person seeking closure in their relationship. I understand that what two people built together is too difficult to let go when one of the partners suddenly decides to walk away, not letting you know what to do with whatever you have built together, alone. But such is life and you have to move on, on time – with or without closure.
